Don’t push that button

Like many microwaves, my microwave comes with a “Popcorn” button. Also like many other microwaves, the button doesn’t really work. I tried using it once and ended up with about 10 popped kernels. After some experimentation, I finally found a time that works (4 minutes) and have never used the “Popcorn” button since.

I was amused to find on a bag of popcorn the second bullet in the following “helpful hints” list:

Do not push that button

I guess it’s a common and well-known problem if the popcorn manufacturer explicitly says “Do not use popcorn button”. This makes me wonder why microwave manufacturers don’t do anything about it. Do they even test the button to make sure it does what it’s supposed to do? Seems like a major usability oversight.
